Crime & Safety

FOR EMERGENCIES CALL 911.
When calling 911 ALWAYS state your LOCATION FIRST and then describe the emergency! For non-emergency issues call 510-233-1214

The most effective and least costly way to keep our neighborhoods safe is for each of us individually to be the “eyes and ears” of the community. Crime goes down when perpetrators know that there is a higher likelihood that they will be noticed.

Neighborhood Watch Groups

Neighborhood Watch Groups are groups of neighbors organized to take care of one another. To be most effective, Neighborhood Groups should be geographically small. We have several Watch Groups in Point Richmond. Ideally all of Point Richmond would be organized into Watch Groups.

If you are interested in starting a Watch Group contact Crime Prevention Coordinator, Michelle Milam, at 510-620-6538. Ask for a citizen’s handbook which will teach you how Neighborhood Watch works and how you can become actively involved in the program.

Safety at BART:

Reduce Your Risk Getting Into Your Car:

  • Walk with other people whenever possible.
  • Walk with purpose and stay alert.
  • Don’t talk on your cell phone.
  • Approach your car with the key in hand. Look around and inside the car before getting in.
  • Be wary of people asking for directions or handing out fliers. Trust your instincts – if something makes you feel uneasy, get into the car quickly, lock the doors, and drive away.
