Parks and Beaches

Miller-Knox Regional Shoreline Park, part of the East Bay Regional Park District, is located within the boundaries of the Point Richmond neighborhood. On the eastern side of Dornan Drive, you can hike in the hills up to Nicholl Knob and experience expansive views of the city of Richmond, San Francisco, and the bay; native wildflowers, such as blue eyed grass in the spring; and wildlife including deer, wild bees, and songbirds. Begin or end this hike with a beer at East Brother Beer Co., which is located near the trailhead on Canal Boulevard. You an also tour the Golden State Model Railroad Museum near the trailhead on Dornan Drive.

On the western side of Dornan Drive, you can enjoy a flat and paved path, a part of the San Francisco Bay Trail, circling a pond where shore and water birds, such as pelicans, egrets and sea gulls, are a regular sight. Picnic areas, playgrounds, and bathroom facilities are also located in this portion of the park.

The park also includes access to Ferry Point Pier, a popular fishing spot.

Keller Beach

Keller Beach, a part of the Miller-Knox Shoreline Park, offers access to the San Francisco Bay for swimmers, kayakers, beachcombers, and others, with bathroom facilities and outdoor showers. The latest water quality information is posted by the EBRPD online and on signage at the beach.

Coastal Conservancy Access Points

There are several Coastal Conservancy Access Points throughout Point Richmond, including beach access and scenic overlooks.

Point Molate Beach Park

Point Molate offers a public beach in an undeveloped setting.

San Francisco Bay Trail

The San Francisco Bay Trail is a bike and pedestrian mixed-use trail that runs several miles through Point Richmond, providing access to our downtown historic district, Miller-Knox Regional Shoreline, Keller Beach, the Red Oak Victory, the Richmond-San Rafael bridge, and BART.

The trail offers ample opportunity for cycling, walking, running, bird watching, water access, and other recreation. The trail links Point Richmond with nearby neighborhoods and the rest of the Bay Area.

Other Sports & Activities

Swimming

The historic Plunge pool was renovated and reopened in 2011. The pool offers lap swimming, family recreation swimming, and classes. The East Bay Open Water Swim Club organizes group swims in the San Francisco Bay at Keller Beach.

Tennis

The Hurlbut Tennis and Garden Park is adjacent to and surrounds the Plunge. The 2 tennis courts feature a ‘hitting wall’ off the back of the Plunge. The garden area has BBQs, seating/tables and a ‘Little Library’ in a serene setting. These courts are open every day to the public on a “first come – first serve” basis.

Bocce Ball

Also located in the Hurlbut Tennis and Garden Park is a bocce ball court alongside the Plunge. Rules of Play placards are mounted on the seating and on the fencing. This court is open to the public every day on a “first come – first serve” basis with access to the BBQs and seating/tables areas.

Table Tennis

The Point Richmond Table Tennis Club is now meeting Sundays 3:00 till 6:00pm, at Bridge Storage and Artspace, 23 Maine Ave, Richmond, CA 94804. We have two tables, plenty of hand sanitizer, masks if you forget yours, fans to move the air around and we practice social distancing.

Table tennis (or ping pong, we’re not formal) is great fun and good exercise. All levels are welcome and we are very patient with beginners. We ask for a donation of $5 to $10 to pay Bridge’s for the use of the space.

Sailing

The Richmond Yacht Club…PETER DO YOU WANT TO TAKE A STAB AT THIS TOO? I CAN FIND SOMEONE ELSE TO ASK IF NOT.

Kayaking

There are kayak launches in Miller Knox Regional Shoreline Park and on Boat Ramp Street. Groups such as the Bay Area Sea Kayakers group organize outings in the bay.

Baseball

The Judge Carroll Park has a baseball field open for public use.

Golden State Model Railroad Museum

The Golden State Model Railroad Museum is located in Miller Knox Park and showcases working model trains.

Playgrounds

There are several playgrounds throughout Point Richmond, including the Janice Playlot, the playgrounds in Miller Knox Park, and the playground adjoining Judge Carroll Park.

PRAM

Parents, Resources, and More is a parent cooperative with rental space and a playground. PRAM offers classes and events to members throughout the year. You can join by visiting the PRAM website.

Washington Avenue Fairy Houses

The fairies of Point Richmond live in custom-built homes lining both sides of Washington Avenue and sprinkled throughout other places in the neighborhood. Be careful where you step!

Gardens

Hurlbut Tennis and Garden Park

The Hurlbut Tennis and Garden Park surrounds the Plunge and contains many native plants that help our native birds and insects thrive while conserving water and providing shade for our neighborhood humans.

Wave Garden

The Wave Garden is a private garden with public access and views of the San Francisco Bay. The garden features many succulent plants. The garden is located on Western Drive.

Map Garden

The small garden near the fire station in the center of town was installed by the Women’s Westside Improvement Club, along with the map and interpretive exhibit. The native plants in this garden attract native bees and other pollinators.

Nearby Point Richmond, The Watershed Nursery, specializing in native plants is a wonderful resource for native plants.
