We’ll be celebrating our Navy and our history while enjoying a great breakfast\, great views\, and live music on the decks of the Red Oak Victory. The George Cole Trio will entertain with classic jazz and pop tunes. We’ll also have exhibits of Navy artifacts and a large model of a World War II convoy at sea. And\, as a special bonus\, the Blue Angels usually fly over the ship on their way into the Fleet Week Airshow over San Francisco Bay. (For more information about San Francisco Fleet Week 2023\, click here.) \nOur radio room will also be in operation so you can send a radiogram to anyone in the world. Imagine you are on a world cruise in the 1930s and have the crew send your message via our original\, Morse code-only ship’s radio. Just fill out the radiogram form including the recipient’s email or phone number and we’ll take care of the rest at no charge! \nYour breakfast is only $15 for adults and $5 for children 8 and under. SUMMARY:Richmond – Industrial City: Restored and now Unveiled
DESCRIPTION:Fundraiser supporting the upkeep of fully restored\, “Richmond – Industrial City”\, a mural painted by Victor Arnautoff.\n\n\nCalling all mural and history enthusiasts!\n \n \nThe Richmond Museum of History & Culture is inviting you to attend the formal unveiling of the fully-restored “Richmond Industrial City\,” a mural painted by Victor Arnautoff in 1941.\n \n \nThis event is taking place on Saturday\, September 30\, 2023\, from 12pm – 2pm at the Richmond Museum of History & Culture at 400 Nevin Avenue in Richmond.\n \n \nSmall finger-foods and refreshments are included in the cost of admission. Alcoholic drinks will be available for purchase. IDs will be checked at the door and wristbands provided.\n \n \nAll funds earned during this event will be earmarked for future mural upkeep and bringing other spectacular exhibits to view.\n \n \nBackground on “Richmond Industrial City”:\n \n \nIn 1941\, a well-known painter by the name of Victor Arnautoff completed a mural funded by the Work Progress Administration’s Federal Art Project (WPA/FAP). The painting was commissioned to represent Richmond\, California\, and hung in Richmond’s Main Post Office located on Nevin Avenue. And there the mural hung into the late 1970s when it was eventually taken down during a building renovation project\, stored without record and forgotten.\n \n \nFast forward to 2014\, a conversation between a museum friend and then-Executive Director Melinda McCrary about the existence and unknown fate of the mural piqued McCrary’s interest. And thus\, the start of a new exciting project began. “Richmond Industrial City” was found in the dark depths of the Nevin Post Office basement\, rolled and crated. The mural was immediately sent away to be examined by art conservators who could better determine its condition. Though it hung for a bit over 30 years and was then encased in a box for another 30-plus years\, we were delighted to hear the worst of the problems included some paint loss\, remnants of lead-based adhesive and a moderate amount of warping.\n \n \nEntrusted in the care of the Richmond Museum of History & Culture by the United States Postal Service\, the Museum took on the huge task of raising the funds to restore the mural. Given its size\, no part of this project was destined to be cheap\, and so fundraise we did\, for over five years!\n \n \nWe now invite you to join us in bringing this wonderful piece of once-lost art back into the limelight!

SUMMARY:Magick Lantern’s Film Sept 23 – Scarlet (2022)
DESCRIPTION:SCARLET (2022) French/English Subtitles\, 1hr 40 min\nAn enchanting period fable infused with music\, history\, and longing. \nShortly after World War I\, veteran Raphael returns home from the frontlines to find himself a widower\, and father to an infant daughter. Raised by her father in rural Normandy\, the child Juliette grows into a lonely young woman who dreams of more. She seeks refuge in the nearby woods\, where she meets a witch who promises scarlet sails will one day take her away from her village. \nJuliette\, swept away by a rakish young pilot who literally falls from the sky\, never stops believing in the witch’s prophecy. SUMMARY:End of Summer Pancake Breakfast on Red Oak Victory
DESCRIPTION:Celebrate the end of summer with breakfast on the decks of Red Oak Victory\n\n\nIt is hard to believe but the end of summer is coming quickly and that means the last couple Pancake Breakfasts on the Red Oak Victory\, too. Join us for breakfast on Sunday\, September 17 and listen to the good ol’ summertime sounds of the Mission Gold Jazz Band. \nAnd for a special added attraction\, the Summer in America Costume Contest will be held on Red Oak VIctory during the pancake breakfast! \nThe rules are simple: Put together any costume that represents all the things we love about summer in America. We’ll leave it open to your creativity but here are some ideas: \n The Beach \n Playing or Watching Baseball \n Outdoor BBQ \n Boating and Fishing \n Red Oak Victory Pancake Breaskfasts\, of course! \nWe only have a couple of rules: Please dress modestly since this is a family event and please\, no bare feet\, flip-flops\, sandals\, or open-toed shoes. Those can be dangerous on the steel ladders of a ship. \nThe contest will have four winners: 1st \, 2nd\, and 3rd prize for individual costumes and best family costume. 1st place wins a $50 gift certificate for the Red Oak Victory Ship’s Store\, 2nd place is a $25 certificate\, third place is a $10 certificate\, and the best family costume wins a $100 gift certificate. You can use your certificate the day that you win it by visiting the newly redesigned Ship’s Store in Hold No. 4 or online at shop.redoakvictory.us. \nYour breakfast and donation to the ship is only $15 for adults and $5 for children 8 and under. Breakfast service begins at 9:00 AM and ends at 12:30 PM. For an extra breakfast pick-me-up\, Mimosas will be available for a small additional charge for our adult patrons. \nA limited number of specially priced tickets will also be available for guests wishing to take a docent-led tour of the ship. But you’d better buy those right away! The tour tickets have sold out in the first couple weeks for most of our Pancake Breakfasts. \nOur radio room will be in operation so you can send a radiogram to anyone in the world. Imagine you are on a world cruise in the 1930s and have the crew send your message via our original\, Morse code-only ship’s radio. Just fill out the radiogram form including the recipient’s email or phone number and we’ll take care of the rest at no charge! \nRed Oak Victory is located in the perfect spot for all around views of the entire San Francisco Bay Area. So you’ll want to arrive early to reserve your seat with the best view! \nMost of our events sell out ahead of time. We therefore strongly encourage you to purchase your tickets early because once they’re gone\, they’re gone!
